Cinnamon Buns

Make your very own homemade fresh cinnamon buns, nothing smells better when these are in the oven.

Ingredients

  • Dough

  • 1 cup warm milk body temperature

  • 2 eggs, room temperature

  • 1/3 cup margarine, melted

  • 4 cups plain flour

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 cup white sugar

  • 3 teaspoons instant dried yeast

 

  • Cinnamon butter

  • 1 cup brown soft sugar

  • 2 dessert spoonfuls ground cinnamon

  • 1/3 cup butter, softened

 

  • Icing

  • 1/4 cup butter, softened

  • 1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 tbsp milk

Instructions

Part 1

  1. Start by making the dough

  2. Add the yeast to the warm milk with a tsp of the sugar and leave in warm place for 5 minutes to activate the yeast

  3. The yeast will start to foam, add the rest of the sugar, melted butter, salt and 1 cup of the flour

  4. Beat together with a spoon and then beat in the eggs

  5. Beat in the remainder of the flour until you form a big ball of dough

  6. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes or until stretchy and smooth

  7. Place dough in a large bowl and cover with a damp tea cloth

  8. Leave in a warm place for 1 ½ hours or until doubled in size

Part 2

  1. Lightly flour a work surface and rolling pin, take dough and start to roll out into a rectangle shape Beat the butter, brown sugar and cinnamon together in a bowl until soft and spreadable

  2. Spread evenly all over the dough

  3. Starting from one side roll up the dough so you have a long sausage shape roll

  4. Cut the roll into equal pieces, the recipe makes 12 buns

  5. Place the buns into a baking tray and leave in warm place

  6. Cover with a tea towel, they should double in size, this should take about ½ hour

Part 3

  1. Preheat oven to 400f / 200 c

  2. Once risen again they are ready to bake

  3. Pop into your pre heated oven for 15 minutes or until golden brown on top

  4. To make the icing simply heat the butter in a pan with the milk, add the icing sugar and vanilla and stir until smooth

  5. Drizzle icing sugar over hot buns and serve warm…… the BEST!!!
