In this video post learn how to the make the beautiful flower cupcakes from the funny film Bridesmaids. Kristen Wiig is a baker in the film and when I saw the cake she made I had to re create one at home and show you how to do it!

Ingredients

  • Ingredients for cupcakes:
  • 200g / 1 cup caster sugar
  • 200g 1 ¾ sticks softened unsalted butter
  • 200g 1 ½ cups self raising flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 4 medium eggs (or 3 large eggs)

  • Butter icing:
  • 150g butter
  • 300g icing sugar
  • food coloring

  • Equipment:
  • Muffin cake tin 12 hole
  • Cup cake cases x 12
  • Large bowl to mix / or electric mixer

Instructions

  1. Make Cupcakes:
  2. pre heated oven at 180 c / gas 4 / 350F
  3. Beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy
  4. Add the eggs in a little bit at a time making sure it is all beaten in before adding the next it
  5. Sift in the flour, beat together,
  6. Add the vanilla and milk and beat until light and fluffy- Now your ready to fill those cases!
  7. Fill up the cup cake cases until about 3/4 full
  8. Bake for 15 – 18 minutes
  9. You will know they are cooked if you poke a thin stick into it and it comes out clean
  10. If it still has unbaked cake mixture on it that means its not cooked

  1. To make the butter icing
  2. Beat the butter and sifted icing sugar together until it’s all creamy and a pale colour
  3. Then you can add some food colouring to it to make it whatever colour you like

To make the cup cakes like the ones from the film Bridesmaids you will need:

  • Royal ready made icing, (the white thick icing you can roll out)
  • A paint brush
  • Food colouring
  • Sharp thin knife

  1. Roll out your icing until it is fairly thin
  2. Use a sharp knife to cut out long petal shapes - lily petals
  3. You could draw a petal first on a piece of paper or card, cut it out and use that as a stencil
  4. Once you have your petals you just need to get your paint brush and food colouring and start painting the petals to look like a flower
  5. I based my petals on a lily and looked up a picture from the internet and copied it
  6. Spoon the butter icing on top of the cooled down cupcakes
  7. Arrange petals over the top like a flower

Notes

You can use the same technique with any flowers or design that you like! I’d love to see how yours turn out so please do post up some pictures or let me know how they come out! Get creative and have fun!
